Shiatsu
Shiatsu is a way to wellbeing and awareness based on a wholistic approach to the person. It involves an exchange of energy between subject and masseur.
Shiatsu acts on meridians, specific points and regions of
the body, balancing excesses and deficiencies
by the principle of tonification-sedation. Breathing and
relaxation are also important, and visualisation or active movements can be alternatedwith receptive phases.
I learned shiatsu at the East-West Centre in Florence,
the school for professional shiatsu therapists of Saul Goodman in Switzerland, various workshops with S. Yamamoto,
R. Lassalle, G. Allasia and others.
In 1998 I obtained my diploma in Physiotherapy from Siena University with a thesis on shiatsu. Traditional Chinese medicine teaches to look at the person as a whole, to seek the cause
of his/her condition, not to treat only symptoms but use various types of diagnosis and be the instrument of what
the person needs to receive.
It is necessary to know how to listen and be patient, to wait for needs to surface, stimulating the innate capacity of self-healing.
I try to approach shiatsu through self-massage or Do-In (or through Tai-Chi and Chi-Kong), exercises one can do alone.
These exercises enable continuity with as little as 15 minutes
a day, a way of seeking and maintaining flexibility,
sensitivity, awareness and meditation.
